Space Maintainers

Space Maintainers are oral appliances custom-created to keep the space in a child's mouth open to make room for adult permanent teeth to come into place properly. These appliances are typically made of an acrylic or metal material. Baby teeth are key in allowing for the proper development of adult teeth. If baby teeth are lost early on or extracted due to decay and space is not maintained, baby teeth can shift making it difficult for permanent teeth to erupt or properly come in. This in turn could lead to future orthodontic problems and costly treatment.
